Lowepro Toploader Zoom 50 AW (Black) Review

In looking for a camera bag, you need several things – good padding, good fit and good zippers (who wants to fiddle with zippers when you need yo get your camera out quickly).
The Lowepro Toploader Zoom is an ideal bag – but only for specific cameras. Unlike many other Lowepro bags, this is not a one-size-fits-all kind of bag – you’ll only want to invest in this bag with a digital SLR and moderate sized lens. Cameras with large zoom lenses or Micro Four/Thirds cameras won’t fit.
Now on to the bag itself – it is made of good quality material, with about half a centimeter of padding all around. On the front is a fairly large accessories pocket, with space for batteries. Inside the main compartment is a zippered pocket with room for small items (like memory cards).
The coolest feature is a waterproof cover that hides behind the back in a velco pocket – It takes quite a bit of practice to get on, but it will keep the bag dry in the rain. Other features include a belt strap on the back, but I really doubt a fully loaded bag will feel right on your belt. Alternatively, the belt strap can be used to strap the bag to other bags.
All in all you can’t complain – the cover is hard to put on, and the hooks are all plastic, but at this price you get an amazing bargain. A bag like this is a must have if you want to downsize your camera carrying kit.

Perfect little camera bag – T. Bux – Barnesville, PA United States
I have two camera bags. A huge bag that holds everything camera related and this one. This one is my new favorite. It is small enough to not be awkward, but big enough to carry what you need for a day out on shooting photographs.
It is designed to hold a SLR camera in the vertical position with a telephoto lens. If you are going out shooting with the telephoto, the camera will be ready at your disposal. I like it to carry the telephoto lens as a secondary lens, stored in the bottom of the bag in a horizontal position with the camera and standard lens on top. A sturdy divider separates your telephoto (or any secondary lens for that matter) with the camera on top. A strong nylon shoulder strap allows you to carry the bag anywhere.
The bag also has a nice top zippered closure with extra storage for rolls of film, lens filters, and memory cards or sticks.
Overall this is a wonderfully made and designed camera bag that will at least serve as a good sturdy everyday bag and can even replace larger bulkier bags for your camera transportation and storage needs.

The Lowepro’s Toploader Zoom AW is a very nice large carrying case for a camera. The main pouch is deep and wide with plenty of room for a nice camera. Toploader means you stick the camera in lens side down.
Inside is a separator that firmly velcros to each side to cut the volume in half. There are a couple of things you can use that for. I’m sure the intent is to remove it so a camera with a large lens can be fitted into the bag but it also means with a smaller camera and lens there’s some extra storage room under there you can use for supplies or extra lenses. In the top of the compartment flap is a little section you can store memory cards in as well. It has an outer pocket great for cables and other supplies.
There are three carrying options. There is a handle on top, an included shoulder strap and a belt loop. Although, I’d have to say, this would be pretty heavy on a belt if fully loaded.
The material it’s made of is sturdy and nice. I’ve used it a few times now to carry equipment and it is fine. I don’t see any reason not to recommend this bag, especially for a serious photographer.
Love this case – ShopNW – Seattle, WA
I was able to stash both lenses (standard and zoom 55-300) and the camera body of my Canon Xsi in this bag. The rain cover is great and easly tucks away into a discreet sleeve, kep the bag from being bulky. Lots of room for extras wihtout making is bulky!
